On April 17th, 63 policymakers, experts, and representatives of interest groups from across the Baltics gathered for a webinar organized by the Baltic Engagement Centre for Combating Information Disorders (BECID).

Together, they identified concerns related to media literacy development and discussed potential cross-Baltic cooperation opportunities and ongoing projects. From the discussions in the three countries, a common need emerged to provide teachers with additional training in media literacy. However, concerns were also raised about the workload of educators and the need to consider additional avenues for providing media education.

Concerns were expressed about the capacity to combat the influx of misinformation associated with the upcoming European Parliament elections, as artificial intelligence allows troll accounts to be created more quickly than fact-checking journalists can debunk inaccurate information.

Experts participating in the meeting consider BECID’s most significant value to be its ability to compile overviews of cross-Baltic disinformation narratives, mobilize resources for training various target groups, and create training materials.
