QUARTERLY BRIEF | Summer 2026

Summer 2026 was an active period for BECID and its partners, bringing together fact-checking, media literacy, disinformation monitoring, research and regional cooperation across Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

BECID experts contributed to major international events, including GlobalFact 2026 in Vilnius, where discussions explored artificial intelligence, information integrity, media literacy and the future of fact-checking. Partners also continued training and outreach with teachers, journalists, librarians, museum professionals and other communities across the region.

BECID’s GLAM-sector programme continued with webinars on fraud and scams and social media algorithms. The June webinar attracted 153 participants from across the Baltic States, while the August session examined how recommendation systems, filter bubbles and changing information habits shape what people see online.

During the summer, BECID also published three Hot Reports, examining narratives around Ukrainian drone-defence cooperation, the digital euro, and claims designed to undermine confidence in Lithuania’s defence policy and NATO.

Another milestone was the completion of BECID’s Physical MIL Intervention Guide on Elections, centred on the interactive Propawheel, which helps audiences recognise common manipulation techniques in political communication.

Finally, on 24 August, BECID launched its renewed website, becid.eu. Available in English, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian, the new platform makes BECID’s fact-checks, research, media literacy activities, events and resources easier to discover.

Together, these activities demonstrate BECID’s continued commitment to strengthening information resilience and cross-border cooperation across the Baltic States.
